Friends of young ETX mom trying to raise $6000+ for medical costs

Friends and family of Hannah Oliphant, mom of two children in the Tyler area who has had several unexpected jaw surgeries in recent months, are joining together to try to help her. Due to complications from surgery, Hannah is unable to eat most foods, and can barely lift her head. It has had a debilitating effect on Hannah, and she is unable to do the things with her husband and children that a healthy mom can do.

Hannah's family is trying to save enough money for her surgery and expenses, which will amount, reportedly, to about $10,000. As is the case with most young families, it's a struggle for them to come up with that much cash, so friends of the family are pitching in to raise money for her by hosting a benefit garage sale on May 5th.

The sale will take place from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. at The Platten Law Office (115 E. Houston Street, Tyler). There will be clothes, toys, furniture, and more!

Local artists to display during reception tonight at Revamped

Local artists to display during reception tonight at Revamped

For two nights only, three talented and unique local artists will display some of their work at Revamped Furniture and Art Gallery.

Revamped opens its doors frequently to artists, hosting receptions during which they offer free refreshments, wine, and live music for visitors who come to stroll through the beautifully appointed, cozy showroom.

They say, "The  focus of Revamped is to bring you new, unique art and culture while exposing what can already be found here in East Texas."

There is a lot of beauty and creativity in East Texas, most certainly.

The artists who will be featured tonight are Jason Carrasco, Lisa Rachel, and curator of Tyler's own Gallery Main Street, Ashley Foxx.

I spoke with Foxx about some of the pieces she will display at Revamped.

Business owners, April 16 is your date...

Business owners, April 16 is your date...

Released by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts:

Texas Comptroller Susan Combs today reminded business owners that April 16 is the deadline to file property tax renditions with their county appraisal districts. To render is to list the taxable inventory, furniture and fixtures, machinery and equipment and other property a business owned or managed as of Jan. 1. The appraisal district may use the information to set property values.

“Rendition helps the appraisal district appraise property fairly and accurately,” Combs said. “If some businesses are not paying their share of property tax, it places a greater tax burden on other business owners and homeowners.”

Rendering allows property owners to record their opinion of their property’s value and ensures that the appraisal district sends them a notice before changing a value on their property.
