TYLER, TX (KLTV)- TYLER, TEXAS (KLTV) - Ricklan Holmes has been named head football coach and campus coordinator at John Tyler high school. Tyler ISD approved the hire Monday evening.
Holmes has been acting in an interim role, replacing Dereck Rush who left earlier this spring.
"The community has been behind me, the kids have been behind me and the adminstration here at John Tyler has been behind me," Holmes told KLTV last Monday, when the Lions opened spring practice, "The positive feedback I have gotten from everyone and everyone is praying for me hoping that they make the right decision and give me the job."
Holmes is a John Tyler graduate and played his college football at Oklahoma State before a stint in the NFL with the Patriots.
"Coach Holmes has an outstanding reputation with his team of players and coaches at John Tyler High School," Tyler ISD athletic directo,r Rod Kaspar said. "We look forward to his continued success as head coach of the Lions."
Holmes has coached 15 Division I and II collegiate players, and one current NFL Player.
