8th Annual Don R. Pinkerton Memorial Charity Golf Tournament & Ladies’ Games Day

From the Salvation Army in Tyler:

On Monday, April 22nd golfers will swing their clubs and ladies will set up their Mah Jongg and Bridge tables to benefit The Salvation Army in Tyler.  The 8th Annual Don R. Pinkerton Memorial Charity Golf Tournament & Ladies’ Games Day is looking to be a wonderful day full of good times and good hearts as we remember Don Pinkerton’s legacy.  It should be a lovely day as the participants and the public enjoy the beautiful greens at Hollytree Country Club (6700 Hollytree Dr. Tyler, TX 75703).

Teams must pre-register by contacting Cindy Bell at cindy_bell@uss.salvationarmy.org or 903-592-4361.  On tournament day, team check-in begins at 11:00 am. This will also be the last chance to purchase golf balls for the helicopter ball drop which will begin at noon and involves two cash prizes.  Tee time begins with a shotgun start at 1:00 pm.  “For the past few years this has been a sold-out tournament, so we are anticipating some good and healthy competition,” said Pat Pinkerton, Tournament Director.  During the event there will be a silent auction of items donated by local businesses in the Tyler community. All funds raised go directly to support the many programs and services The Salvation Army provides for the East Texas community.

Don Pinkerton was an advocate for the less-fortunate in our community and the services provided to them by The Salvation Army.  In his honor, Pat Pinkerton annually hosts this tournament, continually funding the programs and services that he loved.  “Unfortunately, the number of people seeking assistance through our programs and services, many for the first time in their lives, continues to increase, and it is due to the generosity and support of the Tyler community that we are able to continue helping the “lost” get back on their feet,” said Major Ben Lawrence, Commanding Officer for The Salvation Army in Tyler.

To date, over $240,000 has been raised at the annual tournament.  The support of the Tyler community, including the individual players, donors, and companies that donated money or goods has made it possible for this impressive sum of money to get to the people who need it most.
