Released by Goodwill Industries of East Texas:
Since 1951, Goodwill agencies across the United States and Canada have marked the first full week of May as Goodwill Industries Week, a time to celebrate the organization’s mission of enhancing the dignity and quality of life of individuals, families and communities by eliminating challenges to finding employment and providing access and opportunities to skills training and employment opportunities in a variety of high-growth industries.
Recent news reports have shown that despite the large number of Americans who are out of work, many jobs are going unfilled because employers cannot find workers with the necessary skills to match open positions. With so many families here in East Texas struggling to make ends meet, we must strive to ensure that in our community, we do everything possible to match eager workers with open jobs.
At Goodwill Industries of East Texas, we have many years of experience matching potential employees — specifically people who have disabilities, those who lack education or job experience, and others who face challenges to finding employment — with prospective employers. As a result, every 38 seconds of every business day, someone helped by Goodwill® earns a good job. Here in East Texas, Goodwill helps over 50 people per month with job training services toward the goal of meaningful employment. Due to the tax deductible donations of our generous communities of East Texas, Goodwill’s Career and Counseling Services Division has now expanded into areas such as Longview, Jacksonville and Canton. We also provide over 40 jobs for people with severe disabilities (14c) who could not work in a competitive workplace right here in Tyler.
On May 9-11,we will mark Goodwill Industries Week by holding a FREE Electronic Recycling Drive at our newly opened Computer Works store located at 1530 John Carney Drive. This 3 day drive will be held from 7 AM to 6 PM. We will serve an "early bird" coffee and have snacks, beverages, and door prizes all day long. Goodwill has a partnership with Dell ReConnect® to recycle laptops, computers, tablets, printers, monitors and more. By donating these items to Goodwill, we can keep our landfills clear from these toxic items as well as refurbish items for resale at the Computer Works store for a very competitive price. Additionally, these donations provide the much needed funds to continue our Mission of providing services and employment for those with barriers. Working together, we can ensure that every individual in East Texas has the opportunity to earn self-sufficiency and reach their fullest potential through the power of work.
