Local artists to display during reception tonight at Revamped | Arts & Culture

For two nights only, three talented and unique local artists will display some of their work at Revamped Furniture and Art Gallery.

Revamped opens its doors frequently to artists, hosting receptions during which they offer free refreshments, wine, and live music for visitors who come to stroll through the beautifully appointed, cozy showroom.

They say, "The  focus of Revamped is to bring you new, unique art and culture while exposing what can already be found here in East Texas."

There is a lot of beauty and creativity in East Texas, most certainly.

The artists who will be featured tonight are Jason Carrasco, Lisa Rachel, and curator of Tyler's own Gallery Main Street, Ashley Foxx.

I spoke with Foxx about some of the pieces she will display at Revamped. Some feature random people who have their human faces replaced by clock faces, and Ashley confesses that this work is somewhat influenced by her admiration of Salvador Dali's work.

I asked Ashley, "What made you think of using a clock face for some of the faces? Is it a statement about aging or am I reading too much into it?"

"Dali is one of my favorite artists," she replied, "so the clock motif fits; also, aging is definitely a part of it. Looks and beauty are fleeting. Primarily though, I view time as a "she." She can seduce us into squandering time that would be better spent on less frivolous pursuits. She can be a predator that threatens us to run from the clock, or any number of applications. I'm fascinated by the concept of time."

I am fascinated by the art and the people who created it, personally. Please join these three talented Texans at Revamped, an amazing store, in its own right.
