What's going on in East Texas this weekend? June 13-16

If you're looking for something fun to do this weekend, make sure to check out this list and find some exciting events taking place locally; save gas money, support East Texas business, arts and music, and most of all, have a great time!

Tyler:

Improv comedy workshops will be offered during the East Texas Comedy Festival at Liberty Hall on Saturday, June 15. Workshops will cover “Techniques of Scenic Improvisation” at 9 a.m. and “Building Characters” at 2 p.m. These workshops are designed to help build confidence and to learn to trust one's instincts. Through different exercises participants will learn character development and scene work. This is to help participants become comfortable as a character through childlike play. Register for the workshops at www.LibertyTyler.com.  Each workshop is $30 or $50 to take both. For more information, call Liberty Hall Manager Anne Payne at (903) 595-7274

James L. Wages will perform with full band (very rare to see him with a full band) Saturday night June 15 at 6pm at Hawkins High School Auditorium. This performance will help raise funds for the Keep Hawkins Beautiful program which helps those who can not afford to clean up their home or yard.

For just $10, you can experience the closest thing to a real Elvis concert while helping friends and neighbors less fortunate than yourself.

For more information, please call 903-769-3322.

Second annual “East Texas Comedy Festival” this weekend at Liberty Hall

From the City of Tyler:

Liberty Hall is proud to announce the second annual “East Texas Comedy Festival” June 14 and 15.  The festival will include a contest for “East Texas Funniest Comic “ which will begin at 8 p.m. on Friday, two Comedy Workshops at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, and the final performance will be standup comedy by our headliner comedian, Daryl Felsberg.

This year’s contest features nine standup comics who were chosen by a panel of judges from more than 30 submissions.  Friday night each comic will have five minutes to win the crowd over.  The winner will be determined by an audience vote and our judges, and will be crowned the 2013 “East Texas Funniest Comic”.

“We have some amazing talent this year,” said Anne Payne, Liberty Hall Manager. “Their chemistry and fast paced brand of improv will make you laugh until you cry!”
