It's National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day!

Chocolate chip cookies are a favorite comfort food of nearly everyone. They're chewy, full of flavor, and chocolate-y...perfect in most people's book!

In celebration of Chocolate Chip Cookie Day on May 15,  here is a favorite recipe from KLTV's Mama Steph that we think you'll enjoy; just leave out the cherries if you prefer your cookies without fruit.

MamaSteph’s Cherry Chocolate Chip Cookies

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 1/2 sticks of unsalted, melted butter (then cooled)

1 1/2 cups packed light brown sugar

Cancer cured at the farmers market?

Cancer cured at the farmers market?

We have all heard that eating vegetables and fruits is good for our health. Nothing new there.

The problem is that many of us forget to purposely grab healthy vegetables, often opting instead for foods that are quick and easy to prepare, but are, admittedly, not so good for us.

According to the National Institutes of Health, the types of vegetables or fruit that most often appear to be protective against cancer are raw vegetables, followed by allium vegetables, carrots, green vegetables, cruciferous vegetables, and tomatoes.

Brookshire's Heroes Flights

Brookshire's Heroes Flights

East Texas-based regional grocery chain Brookshire Grocery Co. will escort 30 World War II veterans to Washington D.C. May 23-25 to visit the WWII Memorial and other sites.

Known as “Heroes Flights,” the program began as a way for the company to honor local World War II veterans for their service and sacrifices. Most of the veterans have never seen the memorial, which was constructed in 2004. Now in their 80s and 90s, many would never have the opportunity without BGC’s Heroes Flights program.

This flight marks the sixth trip since spring 2010. BGC employees and community leaders travel as “guardians” to assist the veterans during the journey. There is no charge for the veterans selected for the trip.
